A Twist of Faith is a Contemporary Christian Romance novel set in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pepper Basham intricately weaves together a story of redemption and love with humor and good dose of southern life.
Dr. Adelina “Dee” Roseland is a language pathologist who has her heart set on teaching at UVA in Charlottesville. She’s worked hard and sacrificed everything for the chance to escape her Appalachian roots and become a sophisticated city woman. But first, she must teach at a smaller campus in the small Blue Ridge town of Ransom. In order to achieve her Charlottesville dream, she must convince her colleague, Dr. Alex Murdock that she has what it takes to be at the larger campus. If she wants a chance at her dream, she must prove her ability by taking a person with a heavy southern accent and rehabilitating their language into a more acceptable form.
In walks in Reese Mitchell the cattle farmer with an accent that rivals actors on the hit television show, Hee Haw. (Okay, I know I just revealed my age with that one!)
Dr. Adelina takes on the wager to transform Reese, but as she does, she discovers his faith and family, and how they face troubling times. As she gets to know Reese and his loving family, her heart opens to the possibility of love and finally having a home. But when Reese finds out she used him as a pawn to further her career, will he forgive her?
It took me a few chapters to get into this book. I thought the concept was intriguing, but it didn’t captivate me until about chapter five or six. After that, I was hooked to the storyline and invested in the outcome. I really enjoyed Reese’s character. I love that although he is a Christian, he still struggles with putting his faith in God and giving forgiveness to those who have wronged him. I really think this hits home with a lot of Christian readers. I like to know that I’m not the only one who makes mistakes and stumbles in my faith. Not to mention, he was a gorgeous Hero that had me wanting to steal some of those kisses he kept giving away!
Great read with humor to break up the serious issues explained throughout the story. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, and daydream about smooching a southern gentleman, this book is for you. I highly recommend you check this book out.
