Author Interview: Teresa Smyser!

Author Interview With Teresa Smyser

I am honored to have a good friend and the fearless leader of the Athens Writer’s Group, Teresa Smyser.

What was the hardest scene to write in your book?

Teresa: For me, scheming evil deeds proved the most difficult since it’s opposite of my natural personality. I have to admit, it’s hard for me to think like a “bad guy”. Planning each fight scene required intensive research into the mindset of the time period and the weapons used. In order to establish a believable scene, I spent hours daydreaming details before my fingers captured it on the computer screen. Learning intriguing facts through my history exploration is one side benefit from researching for my book.

What’s your favorite device in your writing space?

Teresa: I recently purchased a lift-top desk that sits on top of my oak desk. This new acquisition will allow me to sit or stand while typing my manuscript. I hope to lessen back and leg pain brought on from sitting at my computer for hours at a time. When I start my next novel, I will put it to the test.

Tell me about the questions at the end of the book.

Teresa: I have provided discussion questions at the end of the book for the reader to use as a tool in a book club or for the reader to consider and answer for themselves. The questions pertain not only to the storyline, but are designed to take the reader to a deeper level of self-examination in light of God’s Word. The questions are relevant for any gender.

What writing book would you suggest to a new author?

Teresa: Platform: Get Noticed in A Noisy World by Michael Hyatt. He is the first professional blogger I started following. At the time, he was the chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers (now Harper Collins Publishing). Before that he was a literary agent. Now he writes and speaks full-time. Based on his history and after listening to his webinars, I trusted this book would give me helpful advice as a writer. Packed with ways to create a platform and build an audience, his book doesn’t disappoint.

Teresa, I have enjoyed hosting you today. Thanks for joining me!
