Author Interview: Chloe Flanagan
Today we welcome Chloe Flanagan, author of Forward to What Lies Ahead. Thank you so much for taking the time to be with us today, Chloe.
I know you told me you were a new author, do you have any advice to someone just starting out on their writing journey?
Chloe: First of all, thank you so much for inviting me to chat with you today!
I would advise new writers to remember that God gave them the creative spirit and desire to write. There will be some frustrating times, when giving up seems like a pretty good option, but it’s important not to give into that inclination. He will bless the process and result. Because of this, writing doesn’t have to be a completely solitary activity. Speaking of being solitary, I’d also recommend finding a writing community, either in-person or online. It will lead to meeting some awesome and talented writers.
What four words best describe you?
Chloe: Adaptable. When I was growing up, my family lived in a lot of different places. That experience helped me learn to be flexible and adjust to various situations and to interact with diverse people, which I love. I try to use that ability to climb inside my characters’ heads.
Daydreamer. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had stories—both ones I’ve read and ones I make up—rolling around in my head.
Absent. This could be connected to the previous one. I tend to be a little forgetful and absent-minded sometimes.
Pragmatic. Even though I’m a daydreamer, when I’m not reading, thinking about or writing a story, I’m fairly down to earth and no-nonsense.
If you could talk to any author alive or in Heaven, whom would you chat with?
Chloe: I think it would be neat to talk to Louisa May Alcott because I love her books and because she had an interesting life.
I’ve been blessed to actually interact with several of my favorite living authors through email and social media. Those interactions are a big part of what inspired me to write fiction.
Do you have a favorite recipe that you just love cooking?
Chloe: Homemade pizza! I love baking my own crust and choosing the toppings. I usually do a red sauce pizza and a white sauce pizza. Now I’m getting hungry!
