WIP The Military Behind Women of Strength

I first got the idea to use the military as a backdrop for my Women of Strength series from an old black and white movie with Shirley Temple as a teenager, Since You Went Away.

Ana’s story, or rather Laurie’s story, began to unfold. I already had Ana’s story in my mind. Single mother trying to get out from under her mother’s thumb, but I still wanted to weave in the military to my story. Then the death of Ana’s fiancé came to me as well as Laurie’s struggle with a husband missing in action.

Once I finished A Mother’s Love, my second novel started to unfold. I thought about all the chaos during war, and how easy it could have been to make a mistake as huge as mistaken identity. I believe NCIS had a part in this. There was an episode where a wife thought her husband had been killed on a secret mission, but then she gets a mysterious call from him after the funeral. Then A Wife’s Devotion started coming together.

The third book in the series, A Daughter’s Forgiveness was purely my imagination. I wanted to write a story that involved a band director. I still wanted the military involved, so I added in a military hero. I also have a fascination with Ireland and how they talk. It was easy to add Gemma’s Irish heritage.

Anyways, that’s how I chose my Women of Strength Series books. I’m also debating whether or not to write stories about each daughter as well. How do you find your inspiration?
