Author Interview! April Lynn Newell

Author Interview with April Lynn Newell

This week we welcome author April Lynn Newell author of The Overcome Trilogy. April, thank you for taking the time to meet with me and answer a few questions about your writing.

What was the hardest scene to write in your book?

April: All of the prison scenes for The Remnant and for The Reconciling it was the scene when the crew returned home. But I don’t want to give anything away now…

I’ve always wanted to be a writer, since I was about 10 anyway. I have a degree in journalism so I was published a lot in my University newspaper and was a freelance writer for a local newspaper and magazine for a few years. I began work on The Reconciling my sophomore year in college but did not finish it for about 6 or 7 years!

What inspire your writing?

April: So much. Sometimes I hear a song and a scene will play out in my head. Or I will be sitting in a sermon and a new character forms based on a passage of Scripture or something the pastor said. Sometimes it’s just my own walk of life and the experiences I’ve had that I want to share or investigate.

What is your favorite writing snack?

April: Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate!

More About April

I have been writing ever since I can remember. However, it was my fourth grade teacher who gave me the encouragement I needed to believe in myself as a writer.
From that point on, I was a writer.
Journalism, poetry, fiction. I love it all and have done it all. I am excited to begin my career as a novelist with The Reconciling: Part I of the Overcome Trilogy and continue with The Remnant.
I am a proud resident of Texas and live in the burbs with my husband, John, and 3 daughters. I can’t get enough of pizza and hummus (though not necessarily together) … (though why not now that I think about it). I like nature walks, reading and binge watching TV shows. I owe all to my Jesus and love serving Him through my passions and talents.

More about The Overcome Trilogy

The Reconciling (The Overcome Trilogy Part One)

Chrissi Camden finds herself on a mysterious and spontaneous journey to the ancient King Roi (raw-ee) who may be able to lift her life-long and deadly curse. Unfortunately, the king calls her on this journey with not just her best friend, the intelligent Phil, but her archenemy and the rebel of their school. Together, the four make their way on a journey they never anticipated in a land much, much different than home, where a supernatural war takes place before their very eyes.
As they fight strange and terrifying creatures, pass through eerie places and over treacherous terrain will this unique crew find their way home? And even greater, will they find the legendary king, who hasn’t been seen or heard from for many generations?

The Remnant (The Overcome Trilogy Part Two)

After a harrowing quest on the supernatural plane, teenagers Chrissi, Lesia and Phil are ready to battle. King Roi entrusted each with a unique gift and now the friends must band together to overcome the devious General Tok and to locate their friend Kesil – who may now be their enemy. Between King Roi’s absence and Tok’s soldiers wreaking havoc on the town, it falls upon the friends to prevent Tok from taking over the world. Everything is at stake and nothing is coming easily. Chrissi is tormented by visions sent to distract her. Lesia doubts her ability to lead. Phil worries his intelligence may not be sufficient for the task. The friends begin to question whether they can defeat Tok as he infiltrates their world. For they are but a remnant of an army, what could they possibly do to save mankind?
