Author Interview: Sarah Floyd!

Author Interview with Sarah Floyd

This week I’m interviewing Sarah Floyd, author of the Voice of Joy series. Thanks so much for letting my readers get to know you better!

How long have you been writing?
Sarah: I’ve been writing fiction and poetry since I was five years old. One day, before I even started school, I asked my mom how to spell “once upon a time.” She patiently spelled each word for me and then explained to me that I should put a comma afterward. (She also had to tell me what a comma was.) I came back a few minutes later to show her my work…I had written a comma after eachword! I spent my entire childhood writing stories and poems; I was 14 when I wrote my first book-length story. There have been several time periods in my life in which I was too busy to write creatively, but I always come back to it…writing keeps me sane(r) and makes me feel more complete as a person.

Who are your favorite authors?
Sarah: My favorite classic authors are L.M. Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Rosamunde Pilcher, and Irene Hunt. My favorite current authors are Jamie Langston Turner, Jan Karon, and Jennifer Rogers Spinola, both of whom write unique inspirational fiction.

What inspires your writing?
Sarah:  I have to answer this question on two levels. The details of my writing are inspired by places I’ve been or wanted to go, people I’ve loved or met or heard about, and scenarios from real life or my imagination. In a broader sense, though, my writing is inspired by a desire to create unusual fiction novels that teach God’s plan for our lives while still maintaining believable characters and a realistic plotline.

How would you define pure love?
Sarah: Pure love is a decision to love always, not sometimes.
