Author Interview with Amy Anguish!

Author Interview: Amy Anguish

This week, we welcome Amy Anguish, author of An Unexpected Legacy. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me, Amy.

What was the hardest scene to write in your book?

Amy: The hardest scene to write was probably the one where I finally let everyone know why Aunt Ruth doesn’t want Jessica and Chad to date. It took me a long time to even figure out what her reason was, and then I had to put all of those emotions and memories into it in such a way that it made everyone at least a little more empathetic to her character. Not the easiest thing to do, but I have had people tell me they cried when they read it, so maybe I did something right.

What writing book would you suggest to a new author?

Amy: How long have you been writing?  I started writing when I was in about eighth grade, but really focused on it more once I got to college and realized I’d rather be an English major pursuing a writing career than an art major pursuing a graphic design career. I might have made more money if I had stuck with the original, but the words are inside of me and have to come out!

Who are your favorite authors?

Amy: I have a whole list (and it seems to grow)! Sandi Rog (also a close friend), Francine Rivers, Autumn MacArthur, Katherine Reay, Julie Klassen, and, of course, Jane Austen.

What is your favorite writing snack?

Amy: Because I usually do most of my “heavy” writing (where I actually sit down and hammer out a book more than just a chapter here or there or editing thing) in November during Nanowrimo, I usually grab a handful of candy corn leftover from the after-Halloween sales. I let myself eat one or two for every so many pages I write. Sometimes I cheat and eat more than that. Ha!

More About Amy

Amy Anguish grew up a preacher’s kid, and in spite of having lived in seven different states that are all south of the Mason Dixon line, she is not a football fan. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her husband, daughter, and son, and usually a cat or two. Amy graduated with a degree in English from Freed-Hardeman University and hopes in all her creative endeavors to glorify God, but especially in her writing. She wants her stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good.
